In the rain
So Lucas and I are back.
We stood in the rain in the company of heroes.
And then Lucas (and, if I were being honest, I) couldn't take it any more. The umbrella that had been loaned to us by a nice woman was no longer umbrellaing. The prayers, the silence, last post etc.. all were done. And Lucas was crying to go.

Right there with you on this subject. I think it is really important that we share this experience with our kids, and am planning on following your example when I have mine!
Do you remember when we had the vets come to our church and they were paired up with one of us to tell their stories? I am sure they were "for kids" versions...but I will never foget it.
Or going around Ste Anne's to visit Grampa – how Mum used to get us all dressed up because she felt it would cheer up the veterans to see a couple of children/family looking nice...do you remember how many of them would perk up and try and give us candy?
The London parade in Whitehall was on tely this morning and I got all chocked up – was really impressed with how many people were marching...and heartened to see how many kids had their Grandfather's medals on – one beautiful little girl all in pink like a doll was practically falling over onto her nose she had so many medals on...she was carrying a wreath with the word "SAD" on it.
