Reason #whatever Why I Hate Don Cherry

Look, fighting is part of hockey.

I'm actually against the instigator rule, becuase it punishes people who drop their gloves more than those who slash.

Here's a reality, I bet there have been less than 10 careers ended in a fight. I'm not talking about a jump from behind, I'm talking about two guys getting in a fight. But lots of careers and seasons have been ruined because of slashes to the hands and legs.

Anyway, Don is on, spewing his homespun bullshit, and he's doing what he always does, glorifying fighting.

It's nice to have Kelly Hrudey around on opposite nights, if only to provide a crystal clear contrast of what the breaks between periods should be spent on. Analysis. Insider info. Insight. You know, what a sports comentator should be doing. Not Don Cherry's utter bullshit.

The Difference Between Raleigh and Montreal

Right now it's 26C in Raleigh and sunny.

Here at home it's 6C. And there was just flurries. Of snow.

On April 25th.

Snow.

Oh, and we're happy with our Hockey team.

That's another difference.

The Playoff Effect (updated)

It's difficult for you to understand what Montreal is like when the Canadians are in the playoffs.

First you have to understand that Montreal, to the extent it ever was, is no longer the mono or two solitudes culture it was years ago.

We're now a multicultural lot, a vibrant, wonderful mess of people from everywhere.

All of this to say that for many of the people who live here, Hockey is as foreign as much of the culture they find themselves living in.

Which is why it always amazes me what I would be able to do safely at this very moment.

At this very moment I could go to just about any major street in Montreal, and with a high degree of safety, fire a cannon down the middle of it without much fear of hitting anyone.

Oh, and the Canadians are up 3-0 in game two.

I. Love. Hockey.

UPDATE:
Apparently I love overtime playoff hockey even more. Especially when my team take 2 games on the road.

Dumb

So, Lucas and Christine are napping, I'm doing some work and all is kinda quiet.

Then a Domino's guy rings the door bell.

I haven't ordered a pizza. Everyone else is asleep.

So I tell him "I didn't order a pizza". So he pulls out the box and starts arguing "yes you did, it says 3752."

The problem with this line of reasoning is the following: 12 inches or so from his face are  7" tall stainless steel numbers, which tell you the address of my house. Which is, in point of fact, 3750.

Some Things Are Better Than Mockage

It must be said that I like mocking Torontonians about the Leafs not making it to the playoffs as much as the next... well just about everyone in Canada is ready to mock them about that... so let's go with next Canadian.

But there are collateral benefits from this, beyond the aforementioned mockage.

No Leafs means that the CBC remembers that there are other Canadian hockey teams.

This means I can actually watch the Canadians.

Sadly this means that I also might get to see Don Cherry.

Oh well, you take the good with the bad.

All The Cute In The World And He Tells Jokes?

So yesterday we were eatting lunch, grilled cheese all around.

Lucas eats his cut up into squares, the better to eat on his own.

So, since he could talk, he will often offer one of us a piece or spoonful of his food, it's usually just simpler to take it than fight and he's amused and keeps eatting.

So yesterday he offers me a piece of his sandwich and I take it.

He then turns to Christine and says "Papa stole part of my sandwich."

Hero

It's not how you die, but how you live your life.

This should be an example to all of us.

Give them hell Heather.

DISHWASHER!!!

So last weekend we went to Home Depot, looking for prices for wood for various upcoming projects (backyard, Lucas's room etc). Upon entering we saw a whole row of stainless dishwashers. They were at a fantastic price (no I won't tell you). So we checked, and Home Depot had done a deal to get basically a truck load full. So we got a Home Depot card and bought one.

Wednesday it was delivered, and took up space in our kitchen till this morning when I finally got around to installing it.

The only thing that we can see that is really different between it and a more expensive model we were looking at is that the factory installed insulation is basically non-existant. So, on the advice of the guy at Home Depot we also picked up some pink insulation and we taped it in place.

While I'd never installed one before, and (as per usual) underestimated myself, it's in and it's a thing of beauty. Lucas is very happy. At our old place we had a washer and he liked loading and unloading it with Mama and Papa.

That said, he appears to be more impressed by my drilling holes to feed the drain and supply hoses.

Buggered

So I have no idea what I've done to the settings, but there were about 20 comments that weren't published to the site. Sorry. I'm a git.
