Apple Picking Field Trip

Wagons pulled by tractors were ridden.

Apples were picked (and eaten).

Puppet shows were watched.

Food was consumed.

School busses (Mercedes ones at that) were ridden.

Everyone came back in one piece.

I'm so tired I could die.

Joy

One last Birthday related post.

My sister lives near London. Lucas is obsessed with mass transit. London has the tube.

This is a match made in heaven.

So Marjorie got Lucas a book about the tube.

This was his reaction:

Thank you Tata Marjorie!

Long over due second B-day update

So, on the Sunday Lucas had his second B-day party. My Dad and my cousin (or 5th or some shit) Susan came by, we Bar BQ'd and had cake and tons of fun. It was a lot less wound up than the night before, less people, one less kid...

Lucas finally got his train set, which he loved, and Susan got him this cool puzzle that comes with little cars. On one side is a sort of off road, rough road sort of dealy and on the other it's city streets. You can put it together anyway you want and then drive the little cars over the roads. So cool.

Meditations on him being three:
Lucas is the most amazing person that I've ever met (well, since Chris). Everyday he does something or says something that makes me laugh or stop and think (sometimes simultaneously). I feel priviliged to know him.

meh

The next half of the birthday update is coming. I swear to god.

I just haven't been all that bloggy since the events of last Wednesday.

I've been thinking a lot about what happened. About the pain of losing a child, how you can't let it paralize you and about gun control.

Some of these thoughts are starting to come together.

So there will be a post about that soon. But not before I finish the already a week old birthday wrap up.

Birthday Party Part 1 - the morning after.

Wow.

So we're going to have to make a serious attempt at culling Lucas' old toys, becuase I think the number he has just went up by a third.

A large meassure of it falls into the category of Trucks, Buses and other things with wheels. He also got some more Playmobile stuff, and some books/cartridges for his Leappad thing. We ate too much. We drank quite a lot. Lucas and Anthony (his cousin) destroyed our house.

Everyone had fun.

(there will be pictures)
(soon)

(seriously)

Now He Is Three

Three years ago today Lucas was born.

As I write this he's piling his Routemaster (London bus) on top of his yellow school bus. And talking about "autobus tripledecker!!!"

When I met Christine and I fell for her I never figured that I'd be this in love, in awe, challanged by, smitten with, amused, entertained, fascinated with anyone else ever again.

Then Lucas came along.

Turns out there was more of that feeling left to spare.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUCAS!

Thank you for being here.

A Challange

So here goes, my sister came up with a great idea:

Name your worst going back to school outfit ever, situate it in time and give a little comment.

Here's mine:
Worst outfit... hell I can isolate it to one piece of clothing:

Plaid, colarless, new wave, neuru shirt from Le Chateau.

I wore it with jeans and Chucks, camoflauge ones. One of the first things that I consider "fashion" that I bought under my own steam. I got it at the St Cath Le Chateau, and I felt like the king of the world. It was, in hindsight, one of the lamest things ever.

I'm going to challange, 5 people, so that I have a chance of any of them replying: Kelly , flargh, Marjorie, Eric and OptimusCrime

As always, they should challange some others.

They're back.....

...so as I look out the window of my office I can see the begining of the coming tide.

The students are back.

I'm considering hiding under my desk, and I'm not even front line staff.

At this very moment...

...one of my neighbors is stalking around in front of our house, topless, looking for trouble/someone who pissed him off, while holding a cut down Lousiville Slugger.

Bet all the people I know who live in suburbia don't get to have this kind of entertainment.

6 in the morning

Sometimes life sends you an example of how your life has changed.

Today's message came in the form of some people in their 20s walking past my window as a sat down to do some work before everyone woke up.

It was just shy of 6 am and they were on their way home from a concert/afterhours club/party/whatever. They weren't drunk, so they actually seemed to be having fun in each other's company.

For a little bit I felt a twinge of jealousy. Then Lucas started singing "old mcdonald had a farm" (in French) over and over through the baby monitor.

I was still a bit jealous, but I realized that there were much more improtant things to life than staying out all night.

That said, I could really do with some disposible income and a babysitter right about now.
